Tazewell County is hit by its first school shooting ever, and as far as the incumbent sheriff is concerned, it's clear who did it.

He's gone and killed three men in cold blood, driven to the school to finish off the principal, and then turned the gun on himself.

But the timing is off. Dana Hartman knows that Mason couldn't have driven all the way to Morton, started his shooting spree, and then made it back to Pekin in time. Someone else must have been involved. But who? The only witness, a teacher? Mason's own father? Or someone else?

His mother doesn't believe the sheriff. She needs Dana's help.

The problem is, Dana is busy: running for sheriff, rekindling his love life, and babysitting Grace Gans, who needs to stop drinking.
