The only thing more annoying than a ghost flash mob is a rogue vampire attack...
Supernatural investigator Mina Summers is only one undercover mission away from the promotion she’s worked for her entire career. Her assignment is simple: figure out why several unregistered vampires are going rogue—including one that ruined her best suit—and attacking humans. Her investigation leads her to Thinner, a new celebrity-endorsed weight loss company that’s shrouded in mystery and promises seemingly impossible results.
Mina’s convinced she’ll finish her mission in time for dinner, but when she face-plants into Carma Nicks, Thinner’s smart and sexy vice president, Mina’s suddenly out of her depth. Surely her heart is only racing due to adrenaline, right? Falling for—and sleeping with—a mark goes 100% against protocol, but Mina’s plans to keep her distance are as flimsy as the agency-issued ghost that resides in her apartment.
When Thinner’s secrets disrupt the peace between supernaturals and humans—and threaten Carma’s life—Mina’s forced to choose between protecting her dream career or saving the woman she loves.
Novak (the Lynch Brothers series) launches her Love Me Dead paranormal series with a thin lesbian romance bolstered by a vivid supporting cast. Mina Summers will do whatever it takes earn a promotion at SHAP, the Supernatural-Human Accountability Partnership. But her father, SHAP's director, worries for her life if she were to take a more advanced role, especially when a rogue vampire almost kills her. Now Mina must infiltrate Thinner, a celebrity weight loss company that offers bold, perhaps unnatural results and may be connected to the vampire attack. What she believes is a simple case grows complicated when she meets Thinner's alluring v-p, Carma Nicks, the daughter of the company's founder. Fraternizing with a mark is against the rules, but as the women begin to work almost exclusively together, Mina's priorities become jumbled. Mina and Carma's relationship never quite develops past one-dimensionality, but the women's found family of best friends, ghosts, demons, and sweet old neighbors adds color and charm. Paranormal romance fans will find this worth a look.
Thrilling and Endearing to the very last page
Heather has a way of creating these beautiful relationships, whether romantic or not with her characters. You root for everyone to succeed, even the background characters. As soon as I wanted to step away the book dragged me back in. If you are a fan of supernatural and romance, this is the book for you.
You won’t want to put it down
“When I buy a new book, I read the last page first. That way, in case I die before I finish, I know how it ends. That, my friend, is a dark side.” - Harry Burns, When Harry Met Sally
I’ve never empathized with this quote before, until I started reading Blood Thinners. It took everything in me not to skip to the end so that I could find out if I’d get the ending I wanted.
Heather was able to create a story that felt real…vampires, ghosts and demons? OH MY! The relationships between the characters felt natural, complete, and endearing. The banter between them spoke my kind of sassy language and I loved every minute of it.
If you’re looking for a story that’s easy to follow with LGBTQ+ positive characters, look no further. Mina and Carma will have you wanting your very own happily ever after. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
“Carma” can come get me! 😉
This book is [mostly] lighthearted, paranormal, romantic fun. Sweet & steamy; heat & heart.
The characters are quirky and relatable- even those that are not quite human. :) Look out for a cookie-loving demon in a sweater, and ghosts who love to recite “Titantic”!
I really enjoyed Mina and Carma’s [F/F] love story, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series, out this year! :)
