Border Stories Vol 1

When is a people a nation, a border a boundary? Could I find out by encircling a small country’s ragged edges, one footstep at a time? And what about those mountains? Could I possibly climb them all in one summer? In 2010 I tried to find out.

Volume 1 chronicles the first 10 days, until I fell 50 feet (15 meters), breaking my feet and needing a helicopter rescue.

Volume 2 follows 30 days along the northern border, which I returned to three months after my accident, when my feet had healed enough to paddle a kayak and peddle a bike.

Volume 3 recounts my return to the Alps in 2011, when I spent over two months traversing mountains from Liechtenstein to the French border near the site of the accident that halted the original journey.
