Born Again

BORN AGAIN

It was 01:00 a.m. as I knelt next to my bed, and my pounding heart felt like it was seeking a way through my throat. My brain was in overdrive, trying to process what was happening. It was decision time as I faced the crisis of faith. Do I choose eternity with God or continue a life of alcohol and drug addiction? Eternity with God or the nefarious fame and wealth of a drug dealer? What will I choose? Heaven or Hell? Hot tears make their way down my cheeks. Oh God, help me know if you are real, and if Jesus Christ is Your Son and my Savior, show me now. Jesus, save me. I give You my life.

Then God's suddenly happened. It was as swift and warm as the summer breeze flowing inland from the ocean. It was calming and peaceful as warm oil poured over my head and dripped down my shoulders until it thoroughly washed over me. Then the Father's presence descended heavily, from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. I continued to weep, but now it was tears of joy and relief. I knew that I had just experienced the new birth.

The Person of the Holy Spirit entered this broken-down, drug-filled life and changed it instantly into the tabernacle of the living God. From 1:00-7:00 a.m., praises rang out in that dorm room as I sat on the edge of the bed, thanking God for His salvation. In total amazement and astonishment, a confession of praise kept flowing forth over and over, "Wow, I am a child of God and truly a Christian."
