Fail. Space but no opera.
A decent short story with 300 pages of padding. Starts with a bang but goes nowhere, and drags its feet getting there. Hugely boring. Not up to Eric Flint's standards at all.
Spoiler alert. Paleontologist discovers fossilized alien near the K-T boundary! Exciting! Who were they? Where did they come from? What were they doing here and how did it involve hitting earth with an extinction asteroid?
Sadly, none of these questions are answered. But all the characters get married to geniuses and live happily ever after. On Mars.
