Breaking Free

After Book 2, I was afraid Ms. Cherise Sinclair would be writing in ruts, but Breaking Free surprised me. Not only did we have a problematic sub who wasn't cooperating in allowing her to be dominated, she was also an abused wife on the run from an insane husband who had the law on his side. Beth may have crossed the country to escape her spouse, but she couldn't escape her love of the BSDM lifestyle for many reasons. Now she's the gardener for Z's Shadowlands acreage which includes a free membership, too. But she isn't allowing any dom to dominate her, frustrating both sides. So Master Z lowers the boom — Master Nolan or he'll tear up her membership.

Nolan has returned from the Mideast where he had been a contractor as well as a CIA operative and is trying to get back to his normal. He isn't pleased with his new assignment by Master Z, but he sees Beth as a challenge. But Beth is hiding secrets — which he knows — but he doesn't know she's still married, being too afraid of her husband's threats should she try to obtain a divorce.

Add a truly psychopathic, sadistic-in-not-a-good-way husband who wants her back so he can kill her. He's done everything else, so why not?

This was a very intense story. I had to stop reading so many times just to grab a breath and to settle down. There is far more intense intimacy in this volume than the total found in Books 1-2. Nolan is definitely a dom any sub would kill for just for his infinite patience and his determination to treat his subs well. I like how Beth is painted to be a sympathetic sub who will still continue to try to enjoy the BDSM lifestyle despite the extensive scarring and old injuries evident on her person. By the time I was halfway through the book, I knew exactly what Nolan and Beth looked like, their personalities, their likes and dislikes. (Geez! I misspelled that to be "licks and dislicks"! It's getting late in the night for me...) I had.an even better idea of how Shadowlands was laid out. All I can say is: I WANT ONE! If not Shadowlands, then Master Nolan's new home! Talk about a great design for not just a family but an BDSM lifestyle!

Continuity is definitely intact with the characters from the previous two books showing up for fun. I get a kick over Cullen, but I would have liked more of Ben in the picture as he was in Book 2. (He's such a dear.)

I definitely bought this book, and I'll be getting Book 4, too. I hope the quality continues without getting into ruts which would be so easy... I guess we'll see.

This was a reread.. Beth and Nolan perfect together and loved reading their story.
