Excellent in All Respects
Fortescue should be no stranger to anyone interested in British military history. His coverage is on point, succinct, and well-written. The campaign of 1793-1795 in what is now Holland-Belgium-Northern France is a sad tale of opportunities lost because of broken promises, incompetence, and inexplicable stupidity. It is impossible to imagine anyone doing a better job of laying it all out.
