Brush Your Teeth Ethan Evan contrasts the long and short “e” sounds. Ethan Evan encounters many problems when he tries to brush his teeth, but Mr. E helps him. This is a great book for discussing problem-solution story format. Have fun exaggerating the long /e/ sound as Mr. E shows all of his teeth as he talks. Point to the letter and ask your child to make the /e/ sound. Contrast this with Ethan Evan who makes a short /e/ sound, like a baby showing his first tooth, as he contemplates each new problem. Younger children can listen to words from the story and tell whether they hear Ethan's sound or Mr. E's sound. Older children can search for different ways Mr. E spells his sound, as in “teeth,” “reach,” and “squeeze.”
