Publisher Description

Life can be challenging at times, and unpredictable, with ups and downs and all sorts of things we can’t control. It’s like driving a car on a bumpy road. We can’t wish the bumps away. We can’t control who travels those roads with us, or make the sun shine on our journey if it’s a rainy day. But we can control how we feel about it. We can let it make us angry or sad or scared, or we can stay calm, accept the challenges, and make good decisions.

That’s what this story is all about. With Nini the bird as your special guide, you will take a driving journey in your imagination, a road trip in your mind, with you in the driver’s seat. You’ll learn how to face life’s obstacles and disappointments with healthy, positive “green thoughts”, and wait patiently for the rainbow that will surely follow the rain.

Amber L. Bradbury ,

An excellent resource that every household needs!

Sit back, relax, and get ready for the ride–but make sure first to buckle up!
In the book titled "Buckle Up" by Stephanie Scott, the reader takes a little road trip narrated and directed by an adorable little bird named Nini. What will you experience along the way?

The illustrations are vivid and fun, which immediately draws you in. I envisioned myself driving with the fuzzy steering wheel cover–it took me back to my childhood! I loved that the author made sure the readers use their imaginations throughout the book.

Not only is "Buckle Up" about driving but about learning how to regulate your emotions and reactions to situations that come up every day, which is crucial for children...and adults too! Actually, I think adults NEED this more than children at times–especially while driving (myself included). "Buckle Up" shows readers how to face challenges while helping them name their feelings by using a stoplight technique.

While writing this, my youngest daughter Savannah felt frustrated because she wanted to go to the park and had to wait–just like the storyline! I used this book to help her navigate her feelings, and it worked. She took some deep breaths, scrolled through the book, pretending to read it, and her feelings of frustration dissipated.

Teaching children that they may not control what happens around them, but they CAN control how they react is one of the best life lessons and what I believe is the heart of Stephanie's book. But also, no matter what storms we face in life, there will always be a rainbow.

Stephanie Scott has created an excellent resource and a book that every household needs!
