This book was originally compiled and published in the year 1228 by Monk Wúmén Huìkāi. Inside are the monumental teachings, poetry, and dialogues of more than 25 different Buddha Ancestors from over a thousand years of the historical record. To call it a lost treasury trove would be an interesting understatement. This publication takes a different approach to translation in that it prioritizes the original beauty, depth, and poetry of this ancient scroll. As such, the language and structure of the original scroll is preserved to the maximum extent possible, with the hope that the subtle and profound implications of the scroll’s contents will be as effectively transmitted today as they once were 800 years ago.
