As a big fan of memoirs, I wanted to try my hand at writing about the events of my life that deserve a little more consideration than can be accomplished in 140-characters or a 6-minute vlog. Now on the cusp of turning 30, I'm ready to expose some parts of my life that I haven't shared before. Before, it was all about privacy, process and time. And now the time has come! I’m ready to put myself out there, for you.
I'm a little nervous about all these vulnerable words going into the world, these tales about my love life, the wrestling I’ve done with faith, how I feel about sex and my family and myself. I’ve had a lot of trials, a lot of errors, but also a lot of passion. Here’s the thing--I've always found comfort in the stories shared by others, so I hope my stories, now that I feel ready to tell them, will bring you some comfort too.
And when you read this book please remember: Buffering is just the time it takes to process.

In her debut memoir, comedian Hart, host of the YouTube show My Drunk Kitchen, delves deep into her past, sharing her experiences with family, mental illness, sexuality, friendship, and love. Although she is currently living the life of a public figure, a fact that she teasingly points out throughout the piece, Hart focuses on her past; its complexities, juxtapositions, and contradictions make up the bulk of her entertaining and honest story. Hart exposes the hardest parts of her life: being gay with a Jehovah's Witness father, growing up poor with a schizophrenic mother. These and other figures of her life could be easily demonized, but Hart allows them to emerge as complicated characters. Her paranoid mother is also intelligent, kind, gentle, and forgiving, and values family and art. Her homophobic and single-minded father gave her good home by certain standards, clean and with a fridge full of food. The topics are grim, but there is kindness in her story, and, most significantly, humor. Fans will be pleased that other stars such as comedian Grace Helbig make guest appearances, and, like a true role model, Hart uses her platform to raise awareness of the shortcomings of the current U.S. medical system in treating mental health.

Insightful
I finished this book in almost one sitting waiting for my laundry to wash and dry at 3am. I’d be standing against my dryer and just feel so 😔 but also the insight is how strong Hannah is. She truly is an amazing person. So much to learn from.I really enjoy Hannah’s videos, I’ve watched her since 2015, when I was coming to terms with both my sexuality and gender identity as a trans man. She helped me so much with being a bright figure in dark times. This book has joy, sorrow, ups and downs & it was so interesting to recognize that life can’t only have joys and sorrows and that it is a mix. I truly enjoyed having the opportunity to read this.

Mind Boggling
This book is sad and heartbreaking and heavy, heavier than I expected. I can't believe Hannah has gone through all of that and she's a still kind, funny, loving person who's too good for the world. The book is incredibly well written and beautiful in all senses of the word. I has made me reflect on my own life hardships and regain hope in myself and the world because if Hannah can still be kind, what's stopping the rest of us ?
