Classic info but maybe historical
To be fair, I only read 31 pages. The core ideas regarding the intrigue, rewards, and fascination involved in RC aircraft are timeless; and are explored here with caring and clarity.
The information; however, appears to be possibly 20 years or so ago since it was truly current. That may be a treat in itself for readers of nostalgic RC.... It was for me. RC aircraft being influenced by advances in material, adhesives, electronics (radio gear) and many other applied science disciplines had evolved at an exponential rate since 1980.
The current state of the hobby; with fantastic advances in gyros computers, drones, etc has progressed the frontiers beyond recognition from the time perspective of this book. In this regard to understand the hobby now, would require another source of information.
We are blessed and cursed by out access to, and regular viewing of HD resolution images, and so.....
Similarly "richly illustrated" is by today's standard something of an OVER statement. Low resolution copies of black and white photography sadly or not; may not satisfy today's reader's expectation of saturated retina display enabled viewing.
It is very much a brave new world for RC, and this book might more appropriately serve as a foundational and historical volume for an activity that is progressing at a rate at least equivalent to the rest of the aerospace community.
With electric aircraft traveling in excess of 180 mph, and unpowered aircraft exceeding 250 mph, GPS enabled rotorcraft returning home autonomously, and piloting being accomplished with cockpit video in real time.....
We may need a visionary, a futurist, to ever attempt another such book..... Visions of things to come? Or outdated at the time of press release.
