The former FDIC chairwoman, and one of the first people to acknowledge the full risk of subprime loans, offers a unique perspective on the financial crisis.
Appointed by George W. Bush as the chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 2006, Sheila Bair witnessed the origins of the financial crisis and in 2008 became—along with Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke, and Timothy Geithner—one of the key public servants trying to repair the damage to the global economy. Bull by the Horns is her remarkable and refreshingly honest account of that contentious time and the struggle for reform that followed and continues to this day.

Great insight on the banking crisis of 2008!
It’s good to hear from someone who actually had to deal with the banks and the people who were affected. Lehman Brothers, Washington Mutual, Wachovia, Citibank - so many problems that had to be resolved.
Bull by the horns
I've read a considerable number of books regarding the operation and failings of the US banking and investment industry that lead to the near collapse of the global economy in late 2008-early 2009. Mrs Bair's book is an excellent addition to that list. It provides insight into the inter-agency bun-fights and mis-aligned incentives that contributed to the mess. I recommend the book. But note: be prepared to be infuriated by some of the positions taken by Wall St, and regulators. signed, Greedometer.
