Publisher Description
The highly anticipated start of the “masterful” (New York Journal of Books) romantic suspense series from the beloved nationally bestselling author of Ten Tiny Breaths.
Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?
Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.
The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Two life time’s and two people. Love and loss. Quick read.
It’s book by this author and I’m hooked. Starting another one now. Try it, you’ll love them.
Book 1 is outstanding. I'm still thinking about Alex.
This is the first book in the Burying Water series. It's a standalone story. This is Jesse and Alex's story. It is told in both POV's. The story shifts between past and present in a timely fashion. It about two characters who fall in love twice, once as Jesse and Alex and then again as Jesse and Water. Jesse is a mechanic at Rust's garage. Alex is Viktor's wife. Alex is found beaten and left for dead by Viktor. It's Jesse who finds her and saves her. Then fate intervenes.
The story begins with Alex recovering in the hospital. She awakens with amnesia. It's a new beginning. Alex always wanted a fresh start.
It's a wonderful journey learning about Alex from Jesse's perspective and then watching the new Alex create a new identity for herself. Alex has amnesia and Jesse and the Sheriff are the only two who know what happened to her but decide not to tell her to protect her. In time her memory will return when she's ready to accept the truth.
I like that I can rest easy knowing that Alex was found and survived. The story starts from the point of her being found beaten to death and then goes back to the point when she met Jesse. I am glued to these pages reading at a quick rate determined to reach the point when Viktor finds out. It's all I can think about. I'm obsessed.
It is a contemporary romance which includes a Russian mobster and a town Sheriff.
Even though I read these stories out of sequence I was still able to follow along. The second story is about Amber traveling. The third story is about Luke and Uncle Rust. The third story cameos Jesse and Alex in some scenes.
KA did a grand job with the symbolism with the tree. The word game was another brilliant idea. Ginny was an intricate character to a flawless story. This one kept me up at night pondering the life of Alex and all she endured.
My best part of the story was the epilogue when all the holes were filled into the puzzle regarding Viktor.
