Business 2.0

San Francisco, California — An Iconic American Magazine

Publisher Description

Est. 1998. San Francisco, California.

Some magazines cover their era. Business 2.0 named what came next.

Launched in July 1998 by media entrepreneur Chris Anderson and journalist James Daly, Business 2.0 arrived with one audacious mission: to chronicle the rise of the New Economy — the internet-driven transformation of everything we knew about business. Even the name was a prophecy, printed on newsstands years before anyone said "Web 2.0."

The magazine caught fire. In just its second full year it sold more than two thousand pages of advertising — believed to be a record for an American monthly newsstand magazine. It rode the dot-com boom at full speed, survived the crash that erased rivals like The Industry Standard, and found a second life in 2001 when Time Inc. acquired it and folded eCompany Now into its pages. Along the way, its newsroom became a launching pad for some of the most influential technology writers of the age.

Then came the strangest ending in magazine history. In 2007 — the very year the iPhone arrived and the mobile future it had long predicted finally began — Time Inc. shut Business 2.0 down rather than sell it to eager buyers. The October 2007 issue was the last. The magazine that saw the future died at its doorstep.

Today, the prophecy completes itself. Business 2.0 publishes again — under new ownership, rebuilt as a fully digital, AI-powered business media platform, restored by the very technologies its writers once forecast.
