By Word of Mouth is a short story by Rudyard Kipling. It follows Dumoise, a Civil Surgeon in a small station. He married and lived in bliss with his wife for a year. But sickness took her, crashing the idyll and breaking Dumoise down. But one day he meets a man, saying that he had seen Mamsahib, doctor’s late wife, and that she had left him a message.
