Countermeasure: Bytes of Life and Bits of Life are tie-in/sideline series to the Countermeasure Series novels.

Countermeasure: Bytes of Life Volume 2 Boxed set includes: Blindsided, Lost to Rapture, and Christmas Wish.

NOTE:

These short stories and novellas give the readers glimpses into the day-to-day life of the Countermeasure characters. They are voyeuristic glimpses into their married life, proof that the heat of romance begins with I do.

These short stories and novellas can be read as standalone Romantica, they are character-driven, NOT plot-driven. Please be advised that ALL shorts in these series contain MATURE content. They are NOT recommended for younger audience. Some of the events taking place in the short stories are referenced in the novels and vice-versa. Although the three series are interconnected, the short stories are not a necessary read for the unraveling of the mystery in the series, yet each book pushes boundaries in the development of their intimate relationship and that reflects in their behavior/actions in the novels.

For more information about the series and how the books connect, reading order and upcoming stories, please visit the series' official website.

BLINDSIDED

There are always two sides to every story. In BLINDSIDED, the fifth installment of Countermeasure: Bytes of Life, you will see the events of the early morning in Vyborg through Nathan Nelson’s eyes. Behind a stony façade, the CIA agent hides a troubled past, one he hasn't disclosed to anyone.

When Nathan finds himself in a compromising position with Nikol Petrovna, things heat up on a grand scale. Presented with a tempting offer, Nathan has a choice to make. Will he lay his cards on the table or keep them close to his heart?

LOST TO RAPTURE

In the sixth installment of Countermeasure: Bytes of Life, it's been a year since Trevor and Cassandra Bauer tied the knot. A year filled with adventure and surprises. Now, in celebration of their first anniversary together, Trevor takes Cassandra to his hometown where memories abound. Will she help him face his demons and create new joy filled memories to enrich the existing ones?

CHRISTMAS WISH

In the seventh Byte of Life, newlyweds Stephan and Jessica Connellan are solidifying their relationship while expecting their first child. Nothing will stop Stephan from protecting the dream he’s always yearned for—a family—but his concerns for Jessica and their baby’s health could be more harmful than the eye can see.

Jessica’s joy in the new life they are creating together is crumbling. As her pregnancy progresses, Stephan appears distant, detached. Worried that their whirlwind romance is about to explode in her face, she’s anxious to bridge the distance between them. Will she be able to remind him of what they have together before his promise of forever slips through her fingers?

Amy - So Many Reads ,

Great Bundle of Books!

This is a great bundle of books from the Countermeasure Bytes of Life Series!

Blindsided (Bytes of Life #5):

Blindsided by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey definitely lives up to its name. I was completely surprised by this book. It isn’t like any of the other Bytes of Life stories, and the time frame in which it is set is the same time as the end of To Russia With Love, so you get to see the ending of that book from a different point of view. It is just so very cool the way Chris and Cecilia wrote this one.

Blindsided shows us Nathan and Nikol’s last encounter from To Russia With Love. Holy smokes was it an eye opener. I learned so much about Nathan and Nikol from this short story that my opinion of both of them has changed considerably. I don’t want to give anything else away or the effect of the book will be ruined, but let’s just say, if you read To Russia With Love, you HAVE to read Blindsided. The next full length novel (which I believe is Alternate Connection) in the Countermeasure series is not out yet, but I think Blindsided sets us up for that one. I highly recommend you read Blindsided even if you don’t read any of the other Bytes of Life short stories (but I hope you read them all).

Lost To Rapture (Bytes of Life #6):

The books in the Countermeasure series keep getting better and better. We are really getting to know the characters on a deeper level which is so incredibly awesome. Lost to Rapture by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey is the 6th Countermeasure: Bytes of Life short story. It centers around the one year anniversary of Trevor and Cassandra and oh boy is it lovely. And so sweet, sensual and emotional. Trevor and Cassie are such a phenomenal love story.

In Lost to Rapture, Trevor is trying to figure out the best place to take Cassie for their one year anniversary. It quickly dawns on him that taking her back to his hometown of Sligo is the perfect place. As you can imagine, emotions are high since it is the first time Trevor has been back since his parents have disappeared. How will he handle it? Well, with Cassie by his side, you know he will have a great support.

The true love that Trevor and Cassandra share is really demonstrated in Lost to Rapture. The patience and understanding they have for one another, their playfulness as well as their continual passion for each other are all evident in this story. I love watching Cassie give up more control the longer she is with Trevor. She trusts him with her heart and therefore the decisions he makes. I am not sure two people can love each other more. It really is lovely to witness.

While Ecstasy by the Sea, Cuffed at Midnight and Passion at Dawn, three other shorts in the Bytes of Life series show the hot and wild side of Trevor and Cassie as the newlywed couple who can’t seem to keep their hands off one another, Lost to Rapture shows more of a deeper emotional connection between the two. Their intimacy is just as exciting and sensual but at a different level in my opinion. Bottom line, if you have read the other books in the Countermeasure series and adore watching Trevor and Cassandra, you really need to read the heartwarming story that is Lost to Rapture.

Christmas Wish (Bytes of Life #7):

Lovely. Simply lovely. Christmas Wish by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey is the seventh novella in the Countermeasure: Bytes of Life series and is one of my favorite Bytes so far. Christmas Wish features Stephan and Jessica who were introduced to us in Countermeasure and their love story begins in To Russia With Love. This book is a side story and continuation of their romance. I get so freaking excited when authors write novellas like this so I don’t have to let my favorite characters go.

Stephan and Jessica are newlyweds and parents-to-be so we get to peek in on what life is like for them right now. The authors do a phenomenal job in general of writing about couples who have been together for a long time. It is not easy coming up with new story ideas with the same characters, but I am always surprised when I read a new one from Chris and Cecilia. Their stories are real and engaging. Christmas Wish is no different. I enjoyed the simple scenes of everyday married life between Stephan and Jessica just as much as the bigger parts of the story. There was a very heartwarming scene where the two of them are just talking in bed and it makes your heart swell at the openness of it. It’s so refreshing in fiction to have the real substance of life that isn’t heartbreaking, but joyful.

Everything is not all sunshine and rainbows for this couple, though. Stephan is worried. Fearful. And going a little out of his mind. He is so scared of losing Jessica and the baby he thought he would never have that he takes things to the extreme. He inadvertently pushes Jessica away and this only causes concern from Jessica. She has been down this road with him in the past and really doesn’t want to travel it again. The scene in which everything comes to head is genius. It is real and raw and emotional. Your heart breaks for both Jessica and Stephan as they deal with their own personal version of hell. It is a fantastic scene that results in some incredibly passionate and steamy intimate moments.

There is so much hope for this couple when you see the way they can work things out. My favorite quote is from Stephan spoken to Jessica: “You awe me. And you scare the hell out of me.” It is a loaded statement and you really want to read the book to find out how he explains it to her. You might just swoon. Christmas Wish is a captivating romance that draws you in from the first page, tangles with your emotions and leaves you both satisfied and wanting more at the same time. If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend you get started now.
