"A beautiful series! The writing, story and characters are all amazing! I cannot wait to watch the other Davenports fall in love." 5 stars
When Herschel Greenfield achieved his dream of becoming an astronaut and going on space missions, he thought he knew the risks—but he never expected his splashdown would go wrong and he’d nearly drown. He tells everyone he’s fine, but if that’s true, then why can’t get into the ocean? Somehow, some way, he needs to conquer his fear so that he can continue going into space.
When pro-surfer Mila Davenport suffered a career-ending accident that almost cost her life, she had to adjust to an entirely new life where she spent more time on land than in the sea. While she loves her new career as a realtor, nothing makes her feel more alive than riding the waves. Certainly, no man has ever come close to giving her that same rush that the ocean does.
But after meeting Herschel, when she learns about his emotional fallout from his crash landing, she wants nothing more than to help him learn to love the sea as much as she does, despite his harrowing experience. The only problem is that she also thinks he’s incredibly sexy and can’t help but want him. More than she’s ever wanted anyone. And when it seems like he feels the same way about her, that’s when things suddenly feel truly dangerous. Far more dangerous than any surfing accident or crash landing. Because this time around, Mila isn’t just risking her body—she’s risking her heart.
But is Hersch willing to risk his heart, too? Or once he gets over his issues with the sea, will he be on the next spaceship out of town…and she’ll be left with nothing but the memories of being with the most incredible man she’s ever known?

Inconsistencies are the problem
As a romance novel, it’s fine, but the little inconsistencies causes one to lose one’s suspension of disbelief. Things such as the hero talks about flying on a space shuttle (which hasn’t been operational since 2011) but the accident that gives him his fear of water was in a space capsule. This might be an artifact of two authors not fully checking in with each other about the details as they write their portion of the novel, but the problems seemed to be worse in this second novel of the collaboration than in the first. If you can overlook these inconsistencies, and just read the novel for the fluff that it is, then it’s a fine read. If you’re OCD about details, then give this series a skip
enjoyable, fun read
California Waves had me feeling so many emotions. I am not sure I should have been feeling jealousy but I did. The real factor of the story had me wishing for a family like the Davenports. The real factor had me wishing I lived in a place like Carmel-by-the-Sea. Although I would love to live in Carmel. It is such a gorgeous place with a lovely small town feel.
California Waves was inspirational. Many years ago Mila was a professional surfer and broke her back. She was told she would never walk again. She may no longer a professional surfer but she rides the waves. She is just what Hershel needs even if he doesn't want to admit it. He is afraid of the waves she has conquered. He fears if he doesn't conquer them, conquer the fear, than he will no longer be who he was, an astronaut.
California Waves was a beautiful small town romance with a major bonus. The story has more Arch and Tessa love from California Dreaming. The story has more of all the Davenports. As Mila and Herschel walk down the street of denial, her family sees the truth. Throughout the pages their love grows as the pages heat up with their connection.
California Waves was a lovely escape. It was just what my heart needed. I closed the book with a big smile, looking forward to reading about more of the Davenports in the future.
Mila meets Herschel
Mila Davenport is the local Realtor and has preformed her magic and found Herschel a house in town, now that the business is over personal business begins. This is a hometown girl love story but with a talented writer(s) way of making the story flow. A Must read.
