The Poseidon team are hard-bodied, fiercely competitive Navy SEALs. But when a sensitive mission goes disastrously wrong, three of the team''s finest will have to trust their hearts and instincts to uncover the truth…
"No man left behind" is inscribed in the DNA of every SEAL and Lieutenant Diego Torres is no exception. But with a team member killed—and the body missing—Diego''s honor is sorely tested. Now his career and reputation are on the line, and a traitor is hiding among them. Diego wants answers…and only one woman has them.
Single mom Harper Maclean has two priorities—raising her son Nathan and starting a new life. Her mysterious new neighbor may be impossibly charming, but Diego asks too many questions about her past—and about the father of her child. Questions she fears will reveal her burning attraction for Diego, and ultimately put them all in danger''s path.
This flimsy second book of Weber's SEAL Brotherhood series follows the ultraelite Poseidon team on a mission to a California suburb; why SEALs are undertaking a landlocked mission on U.S. soil is never explained. Diego Torres is tapped to lead Operation Hammerhead and retrieve a hostage while securing sensitive intelligence. When disaster strikes, he is forced to leave behind the body of a slain brother in arms. Harper Maclean is a single mom and interior decorator whose elegant life is interrupted by the news of her child's father being killed in action on Operation Hammerhead. But when rumors spread that her ex is alive, Diego and his team infiltrate her neighborhood in search of answers. He compromises his principles to get close to Harper, becoming far more intimate than he intended. Weber creates an improbable adventure of low risk and strange, sometimes illegal choices by her protagonists, with a tense and frantic romance at its center. The SEALs on Diego's team are the literary equivalent of a stripper peeling off a fake uniform, titillating but with no hint of military authenticity. The conclusion is typically heroic, and it is as unsatisfying as the romantic denouement.
call to honor
amazing well written book 5 stars definitely, no boring pages and chapters
I am a long time Weber fan. I purchase all her books and do not receive any of them free for a review. I read her prequel of this series and was interested, but didn't think it would be anything out of the ordinary. Her "ordinary" is great, so I was looking forward to it. This was even better than I could have hoped!
I LOVE this story. It had a substantial storyline with good development of the Poseidon team members' personalities, interpersonal relationships and conflicts. These characters live some real life tragedies (death of a child & subsequent loss of the marriage) as well as deal with ongoing problems like alcohol dependence.
I also found Harper very appealing. She wasn't a bimbo and had worked hard to protect herself and her son and was still making hard financial and life choices to protect them. The son, Nathan, was a very sweet and believable character. He was not a two dimensional plot device, as kids can often be. I loved the independent relationship that develops between him & Diego. Naturally, Diego is a classic Weber hero but with a challenging backstory. I loved how they came together and the sexiness was GREAT. Would have liked to read about more of their actual interludes rather than seeing them referred to in flashbacks. Please!
Loved that the team all come together, banged up and battered, to try to solve the problem and get a good result for Harper and Diego. Wish the story didn't end quite so abruptly and we could see them a few days after the successful mission enjoying their commitment to each other and their "happy" ending. Would like to have a hint of what is (or isn't) coming for Andi & MacGyver as well as what the next book will be based on.
I had a very hard time putting this book down and am impatient for the next installment in July. I hope that the fact that Tawny has gone to the trouble to develop MacGyver and Severino's personalities means there will be more than three books in this series. PLEASE let there be more than three!!!
Harper Maclean was left pregnant and alone at 17. Her entire life revolves around her son Nathan. Diego Torres is a SEAL through and through and part of an elite team called Poseidon. After a mission fail and a member of their team lost, Diego's team is now being investigated for selling secrets. Evidence is leading to the lost team member being a traitor. Jared Ramsey loved to brag about his ex-wife and his son. Diego is ordered under cover to investigate Ramsey's ex-wife to see if he has been in contact with her. It became clear to Diego right away that Ramsey lied about most of the details of his life. Neither Diego nor Harper want a relationship but may each other is just what they need. When Nathan is kidnapped it is up to Diego and his team to find him and return Nathan to his mother and to convince her that he is worth the risk for more. So can't wait for more!!
