Detailed history, but NO INDEX

I have been a student of medieval history for the past 40 years and have always viewed the scholarship of Mr. Bury with a mix of awe and intimidation. Few, if any other sources, provide such an sweeping overview of pre-modern history as his does. You may find a better, more detailed work on any specific subject ( i.e. art and architecture), but as a reference, his is a source to be reckoned with. However, the fact that this edition does not have an index makes it almost unusable. Possibly, you might want to read this page by page ( a somewhat daunting task, to be sure), but to have no index renders any quick research on a subject of choice, almost impossible. (A table of contents is included, but the topics are necessarily broad.) This is a serious flaw and one that needs to be addressed by the editors, if they are serious about marketing this series of books and rendering them at all useful. I would certainly pay more for a copy of the book that is actually usable, than one which is "pick and hunt" at best. Of course this is no reflection on poor Mr. Bury, but rather a great disservice to him.
