Fintan O'Keefe, the accidental detective, is invited to Canada by Janessa Potter to help her solve the mystery of the killings of her father and brothers. Oren Potter, his sons Terry and Abe, and their lawyer, Daniel Timar,were brutally murdered on their way to a press conference where they were to discuss their discovery and public acknowledgement of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy - Mad Cow Disease - in their herd just outside of Deacon's Landing, Alberta. It seems most of the population of Alberta and Saskatchewan, those in the beef industry at any rate, might be responsible for the killings. In the emotionally charged environment that is Mad Cow in western Canada, Fintan makes some discoveries of his own. Even the bluntest of things may not be as simple as they first appear. Dealing with a disease that devours the brains of its victims, Fintan learns that other vital organs may be victimized, too.
