Can't You Just Get Over It

Both the beauty and the horror of the world she grew up in are drawn simply and elegantly so that the reader can feel the joy found in a friendship and the hot shame found in a public reprimand. In reading, I felt at once trapped and exhilarated by the prospect of her walking away. This book is a about growing up in a cult, but is also about the dynamics that create a power structure - the human need to belong, to be loved and, ultimately, the need to use your voice. This book is un-put-down-able, and her sharing it is a gift.

This is a beautifully written book that dives into the nightmares, challenges and sometimes happier moments of growing up in a small and strict religious cult. It is a story of survival, determination and the power of friendship, but it is also a love story. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. Read this book!
