“A free-wheeling vehicle . . . an unforgettable ride!”—The New York Times

Cat’s Cradle
is Kurt Vonnegut’s satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet’s ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist, a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer, and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat’s Cradle is one of the twentieth century’s most important works—and Vonnegut at his very best.

“[Vonnegut is] an unimitative and inimitable social satirist.”—Harper’s Magazine

The mystery of Bokononism

This book is a fantastic piece of literature. It is, at some parts, difficult to understand. You have to think deeply about some of the quotes from Bokonon and you realize their deeper meaning. Overall an excellent book.

What I think.

When I was 22 years old, I met a young woman in a coffee shop in Southern California. She gave me her copy of “Cats Cradle.”

As she handed it to me, she said, “This book will change your life.” I never saw her again.

I’m now 52, and I just finished re-reading this book for the first time in 10 years—though I’d read it at least a dozen times before then.

She was right, that young woman in the coffee shop.

I can’t begin to promise this book will have the same affect on you. Maybe you’ll like it. Maybe you’ll hate it. That’s art for you. That’s life.

But for me, to this day, it remains my very favorite book.

Oh my God.

This book. This book is so incredible in so many ways that for me to express all my love for it would take hours. Kurt Vonnegut is at his prime, writing a cynical yet hopeful, dark yet hilarious, beautiful book about the apocalypse. ‘Cats Cradle’ has a screaming soul that only Vonnegut could construct. The way he captures so perfectly the inner workings of humanity. This has become my favorite satirical comedy. A compelling read, and a book that can be read over and over. Thank you Kurt Vonnegut. Oh my god, I love this novel.
