Publisher Description

Jules Verne, although best known for his adventurous fictional books, wrote several not so famous non-fiction books. One of them is this book, which gives an overview of the geographical discoveries made in the past.

This book is divided in two parts. In the first part are presented the beginnings of discoveries, the first expeditions in the East, such as those in Syria, the Dead Sea, Palestine, Arabia and other countries and places. Then, it transfers to the explorations in Africa and its colonization. In this part, it also mentions the oriental scientific movements and the American discoveries. In the second part, the author gives an insight into the voyages made around the world, including the polar expeditions. He also talks about the French circumnavigators.

This book is a great source of information for all those interested in explorations, travels and discoveries. Using descriptive language, the author gives very vivid description of the places presented in this book.
