Divided into four categories "Tricksters," "The Sea," "Quests," and "Romance" the 16 tales that make up this handsomely designed collection are adapted from sources originally published between 1888 and 1929, now in the public domain. Full-page silhouette-style images from British illustrator Forrester open each tale, framed within intricate borders featuring fish, gravestones, dragons, and other thematic imagery entwined with Celtic knots. Witches, selkies, fairies, and other creatures make appearances in the brisk tales, which tend toward light humor and happy resolutions. Great Art, Fun Stories
This was a fun little book. It’s not hard to read. It could easily be a series of bedtime stories for children. None of them are long, but they all have magical elements. I wasn’t very excited for the romance section at the end, but it actually wasn’t bad. I quite enjoyed every part of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys less common fairytales or Celtic culture. It was a fun, quick read for an adult. The illustrations were wonderful. For the art alone, I would highly recommend this book.
