Yes to the dark of the night
The acknowledgement ends with thanks to readers who will read to the dark of the night. Well, it's 1:38 AM and I can finally put down the iPad and get some much needed sleep and end of suspense. This is an amazing (hate that word) first novel. I foresee a long career of great thriller writing in this author. I am an addict of the genre and I found her tale to be in the constellation of the super stars of the type.
The story has an intriguing style as it shifts voice from character to character on a moment's notice. That makes for an agile mental set for the reader and heightens the fun of the ride. The steady emergence of the strength of the female lead is done with subtlety and grace. Candidly, I forgot there was a female author in the very first pages and the elevation of Mac never appeared to be a case of an autho'rs platform. It was as natural as any male character in any top drawer thriller by one of the noted male authors. It made the book an thrilling story and not a cause polemic.
I am really looking forward to future work by this writer. And I was even before the final sheet where I found she is a Georgian (by residence whether or not by birth). As one born, raised and educated in Georgia I would like to attribute some modicum of the excellence of the work to the environment of red clay and dogwoods.
