Chains Beneath the Sun

A Historical Adventure Novel by Martin Swan

Two men stolen from Africa.
One brutal empire built on slavery.
And a hidden kingdom that refused to die.

When Kofi and Jabari are torn from their homeland and forced onto a slave ship bound for Brazil, they enter a world of unimaginable cruelty. Sold into the deadly sugar plantations of Bahia, they endure whips, chains, betrayal, and the relentless violence of men who profit from human suffering.

But slavery cannot crush every spirit.

As rebellion begins to stir among the enslaved workers, Kofi and Jabari risk everything to escape into the vast Brazilian wilderness. Hunted by merciless overseers and plantation militias, they discover whispers of something extraordinary hidden deep within the mountains — Palmares, the legendary free Black kingdom built by escaped slaves.

There, among warriors, healers, fugitives, and survivors, they join a growing resistance against the slave empire threatening to destroy them all.

From burning plantations and jungle battles to the fall of great strongholds and the rise of rebellion across Brazil, Chains Beneath The Sun is an epic historical adventure of survival, brotherhood, vengeance, and freedom.

Inspired by the real history of Quilombo dos Palmares and the resistance movements of colonial Brazil, this sweeping novel brings to life one of history's most extraordinary struggles for liberation.
