Publisher Description

Meet the Chameleon; the saga begins here. This first novel covering 1928 to 1933.
Kurt, a Lutheran boy from the slums of Berlin is an orphan of WWI. He was taken in and raised by a wealthy Jewish couple, Mamma and Papa Kaufmann, who give him not only a loving home, but the best advantages in life money can buy. Educated at a prestigious gymnasium, when he graduates, Kurt has one burning ambition, to become an officer in the German army. He enrols at the prestigious Berlin War academy.
Liberal decadence and sexual freedom clash with political extremism, that grows ever more insidious and dangerous for gay men like Kurt, who must keep his sexuality a closely guarded secret.

Soon, Kurt draws the attention of the mysterious Oberst (colonel) Count Maximillian “Max” von Wallenberg from the Abwehr (German military intelligence). Max recognises the growing popularity of the Nazis and the threat they pose to the Weimar Republic and he is resolved to do everything in his power to stop Hitler from becoming Chancellor of Germany. Kurt’s life and his destiny are about to change forever.
On the eve of Kurt’s graduation and commissioning as a Reichswehr Leutnant (army lieutenant).
Papa Kaufmann is gunned down by Nazis outside his office. It’s a devastating blow, and an epiphany that leads to a series of fateful decisions that hurtle Kurt on a deadly trajectory...
Max meets an old friend from the Austrian police, Oscar, who has a very interesting story to tell about a blackmailer, art forger and old friend of Adolf Hitler’s back in Hitler’s Vienna days, Philip Beck. After attempting to blackmail his old friend Hitler, Beck is arrested on a trumped-up charges and detained until Oskar arrives to take him back to Vienna, where he’s wanted for murdering his landlord. Only someone let him go and now Beck has disappeared (under the Wannsee Lake).
Oskar tells Max that there’s a police dossier on Hitler, a dossier that has mysteriously vanished, Oskar tells Max the dossier was taken by the head of the Austrian Secret police and contains information that will destroy Hitler’s credibility and ruin any chances he has of becoming Chancellor.
Max mobilises all of his resources into finding the “Hitler Dossier”. But he’s not the only one who’s after it and soon the bloody dominos begin to fall after discovering that the dossier is now in Munich, in the hands of nightclub owner, blackmailer and pimp, Marcus Wolff, who has rooms in a Munich boarding house, where Max thinks the dossier might be hidden.
There’s just one problem: The house of Fräulein George is a boarding-house like no other, and only Kurt has the right qualifications, all the lodgers are gay.
Once Kurt moves in, he’s quickly confronted with the demons of his own sexuality and he soon falls into the Bohemian lifestyle and falls deeply in love with Xavier Knopp, who has Asperger syndrome.
Soon, Kurt will not only have to fight for his own life, he’ll have to fight to save the lives of his friends and lover in a deadly and bloody duel ensues that will leave many people dead, and it will turn Kurt into a killer…
