Publisher Description
Charles Barkley was a physical anomaly: On the basketball court, he did things with his body that a normal person of his dimensions would not have been able to do.
At 6’4” — though he was listed at 6’6” — Barkley averaged over 10 rebounds per game several times and was consistently one of the league’s top scorers, an All-Star starter and 2-time gold medal winner as a member of Team USA. Charles was able to score over and around bigger opponents using his quickness, athleticism and nimble footwork. He could nail a 3-pointer, grab a rebound and go coast-to-coast for a dunk, and bang in the paint with centers.
In this Signature Workout program, we will develop in your game some of Charles’ strengths, namely:
Using Your Foot Quickness To Get Around Defenders
Back-Down Scoring Moves In The Paint
Shot-Fake Scoring Moves For Scoring On Taller Defenders
Explosive One-Dribble Scoring Moves To The Basket
Background on Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley has long been an exceptional player. Although at 6 feet 6 inches and 265 pounds he was considered by many too small to be an NBA power forward, when he retired after his 16 year career he had 23,757 points (22.1 ppg), 12,546 rebounds(11.7 rpg), and 4,215 assists(3.9 apg). Barkley was born in Leeds, Alabama and played his college basketball at Auburn.
While at Auburn, he was the SEC leader in rebounding every year. He's also the school's career leader in field goal percentage. He was also the 1984 South Eastern Conference Player of the Year and a three time All-SEC player, and the Birmingham Post-Herald's SEC 1980s Player of the Decade. The school retired his No. 34 jersey.
The Philadelphia 76ers made Barkley the 5th overall pick in the 1984 NBA draft. His pro career lasted from 1984–2000 after which he was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and the Houston Rockets. Barkley was the 1993 NBA Most Valuable Player, an 11 time NBA All-Star, 5-time All-NBA First team selection, 1985 All-Rookie First team member, the league’s 1986-87 leading rebounder, and had his number 34 jersey retired by both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns. He was also on the league's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team.
When Barkley retired he was the fourth player in the NBA to ever have over 20,000 points, more than 10,000 rebounds and exceed 4,000 assists in their career. Always outspoken, he is famous for saying, "I am not a role model!"
