Publisher Description

They were the biggest Ranger company in Vietnam, and the best. For eighteen months, John L. Rotundo and Don Ericson braved the test of war at its most bloody and most raw, specializing in ambushing the enemy and fighting jungle guerillas using their own tactics. From the undiluted high of a "contact" with the enemy to the anguished mourning of a fallen comrade, they experienced nearly every emotion known to man--most of all, the power and the pride of being the finest on America's front lines.

Review

Having been there during that period of time with the USMC I can relate to a lot of that.Liked the book from the standpoint of it's simplicity and understatement of human emotion during a time of crisis.Whether it is properly written or poorly written is best left to the experts, real or self appointed, who simply weren't there.I am way too biased where the truth and opinion is concerned. An opinion is simply that and the truth should be told without bias.

Great read

It’s funny to me how the Vietnam war was brought to US citizens by a media that was obviously opposer to the War, but used lies, half truths, and assumptions (based on other’s stories because most reporters never left their barstool in Saigon!) Then some of the most renowned books were also written by people who never were there. That’s why I have read hundreds of memoirs from combat veterans. ALL say the media lied (one huge miss was the fact that maybe 4500 Vietnamese professors, students, and politicians were murdered in Hue during the Tet offensive, some buried alive!) But this didn’t fit with the conjured up idea that the NVA & VC were oppressed peoples fighting a civil war! The communists WERE the oppressors. But the truth never mattered to these morons & now they’re controlling nearly all the news outlets! What a sad joke!!
If you want to know what something was like read memoirs, biographies, etc. When you read history from those with agendas, its propaganda!
