While today the image of empowered women taking
charge and driving the story is far more commonplace, in the mid-1970s there were few role models to look to. Charlie's Angels changed that. Though the series was at times blasted by critics for focusing on cleavage, flowing hair, and sex to interest viewers, in retrospect, those details may have launched a pop culture phenomenon, but the legacy is women coming out on top of a male-dominated industry. While male detectives were a dime a dozen, Charlie’s Angels set the bar for strong women who didn’t need a man to make it – or to catch the bad guy.
