Publisher Description

In the second novel of Maya Rodale’s enchanting Keeping Up with the Cavendishes series, an American heiress finds her reputation—and heart—in danger when she travels to London and meets a wickedly tempting rake

Terribly Improper

Lady Amelia is fed up with being a proper lady and wishes to explore London, so one night she escapes . . . and finds herself in the company of one Alistair Finlay-Jones. He’s been ordered by his uncle to wed one of the American girls. How lucky, then, that one of them stumbles right into his arms!

Totally Scandalous

Alistair and Amelia have one perfect day to explore London, from Astley’s Amphitheater to Vauxhall Gardens. Inevitably they end up falling in love and making love. If anyone finds out, she will be ruined, but he will win everything he’s ever wanted.

Very Romantic

When Amelia finds out Alistair has been ordered to marry her, he must woo her and win back the angry American girl. But with the threat of scandals, plural, looming . . . will he ever catch up to the woman he loves?

We met Amelia in the first book: a touch of a hoyden who disappeared from the family’s new home in London and was gone for 2 days after a disastrous ball. The youngest sister, Amelia is by far the least prepared to withstand (or even be presented to) London society. After all the upheavals in the family with the move to England, she’s also the one who clings most tightly to the freedoms she had in Baltimore.
Concurrent with the events from Lady Bridget’s Diary (which I loved by the way), Amelia’s story is set in a two day span, after her disgracing herself by removing her shoes at the ball. When it is decided by a rather dour and domineering grandmother that she will be ‘calmed’ with laudanum before settling in for the night. Contrary to belief, Amelia is drugged but mobile, and slips out of the house.
Fortunately for Amelia, she encounters Alistair, recently returned to London under the directive of his Uncle to marry well and take his rightful place in the world. He sees an addled Amelia, and his own honorable instincts take over and he takes her home to ‘sleep off’ what ails her. The next morning, he discovers who she is from a gossip column, and intends to send her home safely.
Amelia has other ideas…
Not wanting to head home yet, Amelia contrives a day (which runs into two) of sightseeing, flirting and enjoying her time with Alistair. Of course, we all know the scandal that will come!

Another winner from Rodale, while I didn’t love this as much as book one, I did like the humor and the answers that were provided here. A bit rushed, we do get to see Alistair’s great tragedy and see the connection and attraction between them. Like the first in the series, the tone is light and fun, with moments that run from plausible to fantastical, but will be sure to leave you smiling. Amelia is YOUNG, and that is consistently reinforced in her behavior and steadfast refusal to see compromise, but Alastair needed a touch of that refreshing newness in his life for his own happiness. A quick attraction and connection with a surprise twist that just made everything better, this is a wonderful story. While I preferred Bridget’s story more, you could read this book first or alone, even without the first.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
