Stone Barrington and his friends are vacationing in Maine when their leisure is suddenly disrupted by extreme weather. To make matters worse, the inclement conditions allow for a menacing adversary to sneak in unnoticed and deliver a chilling message. Soon it becomes clear that the target of the incident is one of Stone's closest companions, and that these enemies have a grander scheme in mind.
From the bustling streets of New York City to the sun-drenched shores of Key West, Stone intends to nab the criminals that appear behind him at every step. But his search only leads him further down a trail of peril and corruption, and he'll soon find that at the end of the road is a more dangerous foe than he could have imagined...
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This heart-pounding installment in Stuart Woods’ long-running Stone Barrington thriller series starts with Stone’s partner, Holly Barker, being elected to the highest office in the nation. But the president-elect can’t celebrate for long, because a cabal of white supremacists led by a former U.S. Army colonel are plotting to retire her before she takes office! We were 100% on board for this political thrill ride, as Stone teams with the best of the best from the Secret Service and the FBI. A lethal game of cat and mouse, Choppy Water has all the hallmarks of a Stuart Woods bestseller: breakneck pacing, insane tension, and big twists.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Secretary of State Holly Barker is elected president in bestseller Woods's exciting 54th Stone Barrington novel (after Hit List). New York lawyer Stone immediately invites Holly, his longtime paramour, to spend a week at his house in Islesboro, Maine. Holly and Stone secretly travel with a Secret Service detail to the island, where the next day they sneak out of the house and go for a sail. On their return, they discover that six agents have been shot to death. Who could have known Holly was on the island? Meanwhile in Virginia, bigoted Wade Sykes ("having a woman as president was bad, having two in a row is intolerable") and his henchmen remain determined to assassinate her. They have a mole inside Holly's transition team who knows her schedule, but fortunately the FBI has an undercover agent inside Sykes's group. The tension mounts as Stone and his allies attempt to keep Holly safe, and Sykes and company maneuver to get a sniper in place at one of her public appearances. The action builds to a satisfying double climax. With its high political stakes, this is one of the better recent entries in this long-running series.

Choppy Water
Decent read, but not great. Very complex and detailed plots. Some things not quite believable. A struggle to finish.
Choppy Water
I have read all Woods books for 25 years. This is the most disappointed I’ve ever been. Completely unrealistic. Woods has decided to get political. White Supremacy nonsense and Fox News conspiracies. I will no purchase another Woods book!
Your kidding
Remember when the Democratic Party was Kennedy’s party, moderate. That’s real fiction. Remember when the NYT, wasn’t the toilet paper times. The only real news organization now is Fox. Kate was a Kennedy and I could vote for her, pro-life or not. But these bozo’s today, a putrid bunch. Sick and losers and they will definitely lose in November.
The book was good, a REAL piece of fiction. A rich Guy like Stone, ask him how he likes a 70% tax rate!
