Too woke
This series has the makings of a fun read but the recent book has gone over the top with judgmental references that would not have existed in 1920. In the 20’s women were working for the vote. Reference like white and people of color were not part of the vocabulary. There were no slaves In California. Descriptions of the police department sound like Chicago in the 20’s. This could have been written without the constant pandering.
