Emma still believes in Santa Claus, contrary to everyone around her. On Thanksgiving she see's a shooting star and makes a wish. The next morning Mrs. Worvill appears in the next building. She is an odd person who always carries a carpet bag, which she calls Henrietta. Mrs. Worvill pays close attention to what all the children in the Newton Houses do.
On Christmas Eve, Emma's mother is called to work and Mrs. Worvill is employed to babysit. She arrives dressed in bright Christmas cheer.
