Cinema Scandinavia Issue Eight / Scandinavian Societes

The eighth issue of Cinema Scandinavia is inspired by the work of Roy Andersson. Roy’s films portray contemporary Scandinavian societies as bleak, grim, and incredibly anti social. Is this a common feature amongst all Scandinavian films? Our writers have looked to to some of the great filmmakers of Scandinavia – Bier, Hamer, Poppe, Refn, Östlund, Sjöström – to identify how they have portrayed both contemporary and old Scandinavia.
