Circle of Bones

Maggie Riley sailed a thousand miles to ask a man she once loved one question.

Two years ago, in the smoke of the Lima embassy bombing, the former Marine watched him walk away, leaving her with burn scars and a friend she couldn't carry out fast enough. Call it crazy, call it closure. She wants one hour with the Ivy League SOB.

But three miles off Guadeloupe, she pulls a half-drowned stranger out of the sea wearing nothing but a gold coin on a chain and a tattoo that reads Carpe Diem. He gives her a fake name and a funny story—just not a believable one.

Dr. Cole Thatcher is a maritime archaeologist his colleagues call a crackpot. Armed with his murdered father's coded journals, he's hunting the French submarine Surcouf, which vanished in 1942 with 130 men aboard. Someone is hunting him and he doesn't know if this woman is "one of them."

Riley wants no part of it. Then she puts his gold coin under a magnifier and finds three numbers etched beneath the angel's hand.

322.

The same numbers her brother wrote on his hand the night he died.

A real lost submarine. A real secret society. And one woman who won't stop asking questions.

For readers of Clive Cussler, James Rollins, and Steve Berry. Circle of Bones is Book One of The Shipwreck Adventures, where history's unsolved maritime disappearances meet the conspiracies that never died.
