This is the first book you should read on your way to becoming a Cisco router engineer. I originally put this together to answer questions from my website, www.TheNetworkAdministrator.com This manuscript is the fundamentals that will help give you an overall understanding of Cisco routing and switches. I call this the 1st Step because I’m giving you an insight of what you are getting yourself into. If after you read this book and understand 30 percent of what I’m teaching you, they you are ready for the next BIG book on your way to a CCNA.

Not proof read
This book unfortunately must have been proof read by a middle schooler. 8 pages in and I have have found 1 minor error and 1 major error that could have confused someone not knowing any better. That is a shame.
Before getting into this
I recommend setting up a dhcp server and router via FreeBSD. You can make a Wi-Fi router using it and a couple of Wi-Fi usb connections.
My boss told me this (he was a programmer who set up an entire network for a casino without the Wi-Fi because it was in beta at the time). As soon as I did I started working with the NOC team and setting up ports and networks across the United States. I had set up a router for a terminal server that I never even touched or had any problems with. Go onto Amazon and buy both a switch and router. You can set up a jail system through the router and if anyone try’s to hack into it you can get an idea of how much the FreeBSD system is the best way to learn about the Cisco OS. Whatever it is.
