Ellison Russell’s life resembles a rollercoaster ride. And rollercoasters make her ill. Her daughter Grace has a crush on a boy Ellison doesn’t trust and she’s taken to hosting wild parties when Ellison goes out for the evening. Worse, the bank which represents Grace’s inheritance from her father may be in trouble.
When a meeting with the chef at the country club leads to the discovery of a body, Ellison can’t afford cold feet. She must save the bank, find the killer, and convince Grace (and herself) that powerful women don’t need men to rescue them.

Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders. She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean—and she's got an active imagination. Truth is—she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
Widowed Kansas City socialite Ellison Russell has a lot on her plate in Mulhern's sprightly sixth Country Club mystery (after Watching the Detectives). Inconvenient guests are on their way to celebrate Thanksgiving 1974 at Ellison's house; Ellison's 16-year-old daughter, Grace, is going through the throes of first love; and some eyebrow-raising gossip is enlivening neighborhood cocktail parties. The last thing Ellison needs is to find the body of Laurie Michaels, the mother of Grace's crush, frozen solid in the local country club's walk-in freezer. For Ellison, even more pressing than finding the guilty party is proving that the police's prime suspect, the victim's husband, Tom, is innocent. If Tom is convicted of Laurie's murder, then the insurance company will not honor his life insurance claim, and if that happens, the bank in which Ellison and Grace own a controlling interest will fail. This is a frothy, fun, nostalgia-filled romp that keeps the reader turning the pages, happy to be spending time with the protagonist as she deals with crime, cranky relatives, and the iron-clad rules of comportment for ladies of the monied class in the 1970s.

Cold as Ice
Don't begin this cleverly written book in the evening. It will cost you a nights sleep, as you'll not be able to put it down.
Cold as Ice
I am so happy to have discovered this author. I find that I have a hard time putting down any of her books so far! I’m not much of a writer, so I have a hard time expressing myself. But, Julie Mulhern knows how to engage my imagination! And that is my measurement of a great book!
Cold As Ice
Great mystery! Just wish it wouldn’t be forever until the next one. The seventies are brought back in livid color as you read these books. Enjoy!
