Publisher Description
Brace yourself for a scorching new series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Karen Rose, where San Diego means sun, surf, sand…and serial killers.
Sam Reeves is a kindhearted psychologist who treats court-ordered clients. After one of his patients—a pathological liar—starts revealing plausible new details from a long-unsolved serial murder case, he’s compelled to report anonymously to the SDPD tip line, though his attempts to respect patient confidentiality land him facedown and cuffed by the aggressive (and cute) Detective McKittrick.
San Diego homicide detective Kit McKittrick loves the water. She lives on a boat, and when she’s not solving crimes with the SDPD, she’s assisting her foster sister with her charter fishing business or playing with her poodle. But there’s nothing that intrigues Kit more than a cold case, so when an anonymous caller leads her on the path of a wanted killer, she’s determined to end the decade-long manhunt.
Sam is soon released but goes home with both a newfound distaste for the SDPD and a resolve—not unlike Kit’s—to uncover the truth. Kit and Sam repeatedly butt heads in their separate investigations but are forced to work together to find one of the deadliest serial killers the city has faced in years.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Rose (Quarter to Midnight) thrills in the first installment of her San Diego Case Files series. After Katherine Matthews's foster sister, Wren, is discovered murdered in a dumpster, 15-year-old Katherine is determined to catch her killer. Sixteen years later, Katherine has become Kit McKittrick, a San Diego homicide detective partnered with Baz Constantine, the original detective on the still unsolved murder—and they finally get a break in the case. Psychologist Sam Reeves treats court-ordered patients, and one of his creepier clients, Colton Driscoll, seems to know more than he should about several cold-case murders of blonde teenage girls. Not wanting the blood of innocents on his hands, Sam phones in a tip to Kit—and immediately gets caught up in a whirlwind of investigation, death, and unexpected romance with Kit. Rose strews her twisty, believable plot with red herrings on the way to a shocking final twist. The result is an un-put-downable romantic thriller.
Customer Reviews
Not disappointing
I like Karen Rose. She is good about tying up loose ends. My only “complaint” (too strong of a word) is that all of her main characters are without flaws. I think it gets boring. All people have flaws and it is good to see characters we can identify with.
Not her best
I have read all of her books and loved them! This one fell flat and is lacking in her usual action, suspense, and even romance. It was rather boring and dull. I kept waiting for it to pick up and it never did. Some of the characters were hard to like. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend paying the $14.99 to purchase. Hopefully her future books are up to par with her older ones & will end up being thrilling, action packed, & edge of your seat.
