Police Chief Autumn Long is fighting to keep her job in the quiet Alaska town of Shadow Gap when an unexpected string of criminal activity leaves her with a wounded officer, unexplained murders, and even an attack on her own father. Despite her mistrust of outsiders, she turns to Grier Brenner, a newcomer who seems to have the skills and training Autumn needs to face this threat to her community.
Grier is in Alaska for the same reason so many others are--to disappear--when Chief Long enlists his help. He emerges from the shadows and proves his mettle, but his presence in her life could be a deadly trap for them both. If his secret is exposed, all will be lost. And he's not sure even Autumn could save him.
As the stakes rise and the dangers increase, Autumn and Grier must rely on each other to extinguish the deadly threats.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this first installment of the Missing in Alaska series, Goddard (Perilous Security Detail) weaves a gripping mystery set in southeast Alaska. Autumn Long, police chief of Shadow Gap, is dealing with a crime wave—murders, a missing woman—that's undermining public confidence in her leadership and imperiling her job. Soon she meets town newcomer Grier Brennan, who is evasive about his background, and while this isn't unusual ("People often came to Alaska to start fresh or disappear," she acknowledges), Autumn wonders if he's hiding something. Grier has his own reasons for keeping under the radar but can't avoid getting tangled up in the town's goings-on, as he crosses paths with Autumn and an attraction builds that feels almost fated by God. As the body count rises, Autumn and Grier join to track down the killer, who may have a link to their own pasts. The Alaskan wilderness is a character all its own, and Goddard expertly ratchets up suspense as Autumn and Grier look for the killer. Readers will be eager for the next in the series.

DAZZLING!
Elizabeth Goddard is beginning a new series, Missing in Alaska. Her first release, Cold Light of Day, is Dazzling! Goddard takes readers on a daring adventure with Police Chief Autumn Long. The Chief is doing her best to protect her small town of Shadow Gap. The ordinarily quiet area has suddenly fallen victim to unusually intense criminal activity. If not for the intervention of Grier Brenner, a newcomer to the community who possesses the skillset needed to help the Chief, she might find herself the next victim. Can Grier be trusted, or is he hiding out in Alaska like many others who have come there to escape from something or someone? Can Grier prove his mettle? The two of them join forces to fight for justice and work to solve several murder cases and an old missing person case. Autumn wants to believe the best because Grier, the mystery man, is on a path to capturing her heart. Readers will quickly realize this is a dynamic start to Goddard’s new series!

More questions than answers
Wow! What a fantastic beginning to a new series. The beauty of this town nestled along a bay in southeast Alaska is well documented giving the reader just a small sense of the grandeur as well as the remoteness. For Autumn, being police chief of Shadow Gap is not only the family business, but what she feels God has called her to be. With her abilities being questioned and danger invading her quiet village as well as the surrounding area, she begins to doubt herself. Can she do the job?
Grier, an unknown, has arrived on the scene and seems to be ready to help in whatever way he can. But should she trust him? What is he running from? The mystery just increases, bringing more questions than answers.
This early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Revell and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Mastery in a mystery in Alaska
If you love twisty plots with plenty of action this is the book for you. Not only is there crime to solve but also a mystery surrounding one of the main characters. I stayed up late looking for a good stopping place but couldn’t find one so kept reading.
Autumn is the new police chief in Shadow Gap, Alaska and has a lot to prove. Someone on the city council wants her out. At the same time a victim disappears and a body is found. What will she have to deal with next?
Grier has his reasons for being in the community of Shadow Gap. His plan was to be here temporarily, not get personally involved with the residents, and leave as soon as he could. All of his best intentions fly out the window when he meets the police chief and is asked to assist in a dive.
Soon they are inextricably bound together by circumstances and unspoken attraction. Will they be drawn closer together or go their separate ways?
This book is well written with complex, interesting characters that pull you into their lives. I loved the thread of faith that wove itself into the story without being preachy. Great book!
I was given a copy through NetGalley courtesy of Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. This is my honest opinion of the book.
