PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Ashenden (Sexy Beast) overloads her first Deep River, Alaska romance with back story and exposition at the expense of character development. After high school, Silas Quinn left his remote Alaskan hometown to join the army with his friend Cal West, leaving their mutual best friend, Hope Dawson, behind. Silas returns to Deep River 13 years later, after Cal's death. The West family have owned Deep River for generations, and Cal willed the entire town to Silas. Silas wants no part of it, but his plan to sign the town over to Hope and leave again is complicated by her own reluctance to take on more responsibility. Their reunion is tense, as they both harbor resentments, but they realize they'll have to work together to guide the community through the recent discovery of oil reserves underneath the town. The romance is tepid and slow-moving, and Silas and Hope spend so much time arguing that it's difficult to root for them to get together. Though the locals rallying against big oil and corporate development makes an interesting hook for future installments, this is a rocky start to the series. This edition includes a bonus story by Sharon Sala not seen by PW.

A good story
This is the first book I’ve read by Jackie Ashenden and I enjoyed it. This is centered around Silas and Hope. Silas, Hope, and Caleb were best friends and then Caleb and Silas left thirteen years ago. Caleb came back to visit, since his family is the town’s founder. Now Caleb is dead and Silas and two of his buddies have inherited Deep River, Alaska. He’s going to turn it over to Hope and get back to his business in Anchorage. Things don’t go as smooth as Silas would like and his departure is delayed. Silas has always loved Hope, but she wanted Caleb. Will they be able to rekindle their friendship before he leaves? No spoilers, so grab your copy and see what happens, especially when the town leaves about the oil in the ground. This book may not cover a great amount of time, but it’s a long book. I enjoyed reading about all the different characters and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my my voluntary and honest review.
Come home to deep river
Couldn’t get past 7 percent before deleting. Angst guy can’t get his head out of the past. Vapid female without any redeeming character!
Awesome
