From the New York Times bestselling author of Come to Me Softly, another irresistible new adult romance in the Closer to You Series.
His heart was turned off…
Until she turned him on….
Christopher Moore gave up on the idea of love years ago. Now, his life is an endless string of parties and an even longer string of girls. Enjoying the physical perks with none of the emotional mess, he’s convinced everyone that he’s satisfied—everyone but himself.
Samantha Schultz has moved on with her life. Finishing her student teaching and living with her boyfriend, she’s deluded herself into believing she’s content. But there is one boy she never forgot—her first love—and she keeps the memory of him locked up tight. She will never allow any man to break her the way Christopher did.
When Christopher’s sister and her family move into a new neighborhood, Christopher is completely unprepared to find Samantha living at the end of the street. Memories and unspent desires put them on collision course of sex, lies, and lust. But when guilt and fear send Samantha running, Christopher will have to fight for what has always been his.
Jackson (Come to Me Softly) pours all-consuming passion, devastating loss, and second-chance love into the third and largely satisfying Closer to You new adult contemporary. As teenagers, Samantha Schultz and Christopher Moore found in each other an intense connection, until each of them was led to believe the other had cheated. Seven years later, a random encounter throws the long-ago loves together again. But just as Samantha and Christopher tentatively reclaim what they once had, tragedy strikes, and the reunion they've longed for is critically threatened. Jackson steadily builds the sexual tension between the protagonists as she delves into the past to slowly reveal what tore them apart in the first place, a device that ratchets up the overall suspense. Side plots involving Samantha's cancer-stricken younger brother and disturbingly possessive boyfriend are woven in as taut ribbons of foreboding. New adult fans will not be disappointed.
I loved it!!
I absolutely loved Christopher and Samantha's story. I wanted to cry when the book was finished. Their story will reach in and pull at all your emotions. I flashed back to my own high school insecurities and imagined what I would have done if their story was mine. My heart ached for both of them. I loved that this book showed the beauty of friendship and undying love of family. Get your tissues ready because you will cry both happy and sad tears! This book is a definite 5 star read for me.
The super genius, amazing, story-telling brain strikes again!!
This was one of my most anticipated books of 2015....and AL Jackson surpassed ALL of my expectations.
Being a HUGE fan of the "Closer to You" series, I was extremely excited to get Christoper and Samantha's story.
'Would I risk it all on a boy who was the ultimate risk"?
This book is about a second chance, about discovering yourself through someone else's eyes AND about learning how to come together, despite what has happened in the past. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way that AL Jackson takes you through the character's perspective, in a way that left me feeling like the characters had come to life and I was watching their real life movie play out in front of me.
No other author captivates my attention quite like Amy does. She doesn't just tell a story, she brings the words to life.
I LOVE dual POV. I like getting that added perspective from both characters, because lets face it....there are 2 sides to every story AND sometimes women can be a little dramatic (Samantha) and guys can be a little pig headed (Christopher). There were times when I wanted to rip him out of the pages and smack him! Or SCREAM "Get a CLUE" ya bone head.....which means that I was so engrossed, I lost sense of reality :)
This is MY all time favorite series by the lovely AL Jackson, and I would recommend it to ANYONE!!
Honestly? Im in awe of Christopher and Samantha and Aly and Jared. You write your characters with a depth that gets in the heart of every reader. I loved this book just as much as Come To Me Quietly!
