Great stuff!
Craig Forrest obviously has been where the rubber meets the road! His insightful book, Commando Tactics for Digital Filmmakers is a great tool for both the novice and long-time professional. As a seasoned worldwide road veteran myself, I particularly enjoyed the stories of his shoots around the world. I highly recommend Craig's book to anyone who is just starting out to shoot quality video, as well as those of us who've been in "the biz" for decades. I read the print edition of the book, now I will recommend downloading the e-book to have handy on the iPad or iPhone.
Essential Guide for Young Filmmakers
What I love about Craig Forrest's book, Commando Tactics for Digital Filmmakers, is that not only is it extremely practical, it's written by a proven professional with years of global filmmaking experience. Each chapter is filled with relevant stories that will help you hone your filmmaking craft as well helpful action steps/reminders at the end of each chapter.
If you are a young and emerging filmmaker, save yourself plenty of time and energy by reading Craig's book long before your next shoot. Like Craig, it will help you prepare, plan and execute your next project with professionalism and excellence.
Worth the Read
Do you want to be a guerrilla or a commando when it comes to telling your story through the lens and to the screen? Guerrilla's tend to work alone and use unconventional means. Despite the militant metaphors, the point is well taken in Craig Forrest's highly engaging and informative book on digital filmmaking. Commando's operate as a highly efficient and trained team of experts to accomplish their mission. This book is must read training to be part of that team. Don't expect an operations manual though. Command Tactics is comprised of the kind of practical information that careers in the film industry have been built upon. I love the personal and collective examples threaded throughout the book. If you have a desire to work in the television and film industry or you just have a passion to tell a story through the medium. You should start by reading this book.
