Commentary on Jude

**In this incisive exposition, the preeminent theologian of the Protestant Reformation unpacks one of the New Testament’s most urgent warnings against spiritual corruption.** First published during the turbulent crest of the sixteenth-century Reformation, John Calvin’s _Commentary on Jude_ offers a masterclass in pastoral vigilance and textual clarity. Writing from Geneva, Calvin brings his hallmark humanist scholarship and theological precision to bear on a brief yet ferocious epistle. Jude’s solemn call to contend earnestly for the faith resonates deeply with Calvin, who saw in the apostolic warnings a mirror of his own generation’s ecclesiastical struggles. Throughout the work, Calvin methodically dissects the nature of false teachers, moral compromise, and the creeping dangers of apostasy. Rather than indulging in speculative digressions, his verse-by-verse analysis emphasizes the necessity of sound doctrine, the certainty of divine judgment, and the profound duty of Christian leaders to protect the flock. He demonstrates how Jude draws upon historical and scriptural precedents to fortify believers against deceit. What emerges is not merely an academic exercise, but a fiercely pastoral appeal driven by an earnest concern for the church’s purity and perseverance. Calvin’s renowned balance of grammatical rigor and spiritual depth ensures that Jude’s stark imagery is grounded in the broader narrative of redemption and grace. Indispensable for scholars, pastors, and serious students of historical theology, Calvin’s commentary remains an enduring guide to navigating controversy while clinging to apostolic truth. This classic volume serves as both an intellectual treasure of the Reformation and a vital resource for understanding the perpetual challenges facing the Christian church.
