This Kindred novel #26 brings readers all the way back to the first contact of the Kindred with earth and the exciting/strange circumstances surrounding it.
When Vic, a cybernetic Kindred scout, is sent on a mission to contact the president and shows up in his office, the authorities immediately believe he is a mentally unstable human and send him into a facility where those with “issues” can recover. When Vic is not on a mission he is sent into a suspended state until his next assignment. Something strange has happened and Vic’s cybernetic abilities are not working, therefor his more organic side has been taking more and more control. Vic starts to feel and experience things for the first time, like dream sharing with an earth female.
During this time the evil All Father has instructed his “Eye of Ten’gu” to destroy the kindred so he can lay claim to earth.
Tori, a human female has been sent to this St. Elizabeth’s Mental Hospital by her scheming husband. She has been having horrendous dreams where the All Father threatens her and tells her his plans. She wakes up continually screaming from the nightmares so her husband has declared her psychotic.
Tory and Vic are immediately drawn to each other and have to find a way to escape the institution, alert the Kindred Mothership, and stop the All Father.
This is an original , exciting look back into how it all began and answers many future questions. It was also fun to see some of the characters before their stories were told.
Definitely great addition to the series and even a stand alone to read if you haven’t been lucky enough to start the Kindred Series and enter into their world.
