This is the sort of story. There are many ways—murder included—in which husbands can settle certain problems. This was even more drastic! A surgeon humors his wife, a hypochondriac, by replacing whatever body part she is worried about today, but he doesn't like what his wife has become. The idea is worn out by 2009, and I imagine it probably wasn't that original in 1958 either. Unfortunately, there's not much to the story besides the idea itself.
