Compensate

As a young child, Nico strives to provide some semblance of normalcy for her younger brother and sister, as their mentally unstable mother unravels around them. When her mother's delusions turn violent, and Nico is the target, she is forced to choose between protecting her siblings and saving her own life. Escaping to her father's house across the country, she struggles to reconcile the demons of her past with hope for a future. A tumultuous journey through young adulthood leaves Nico further lost and uncertain. Determined to compensate for the evil she has seen and endured, she becomes a Registered Nurse. She discovers, though, that even the most noble of professions can be a dangerous, unforgiving place, and that no amount of right can make her forget what went wrong.
