D. H. Lawrence's Complete Poems (1964) are written mostly in blank verse. Lawrence remained concerned that the personal and subjective nature of his poetry might lead readers to confusion. 'Even the best poetry,' he wrote, 'when it is at all personal, needs the penumbra of its own time and place and circumstance to make it full and whole.'
