An In-Depth Story about Hereward, Thegn of Borne. An Absolute Adventure That Begins On Page One!!

I originally purchased this book because of King Harold Godwinson (Earl of Wessex) - I’ve been in search for any books written, in a well-researched fictional context, about the life and times of Harold.

However, this book became an obvious gem from page One! I cannot count the number of historical fictions I’ve read - popular and obscure ones; yet I had never read or heard of Hereward, Thegn of Bourne!

What an incredibly extraordinary man Hereward was - a man, who lived an equally impressive life.
Imagine, in the time of the 1000’s, a person traveling so many miles; especially at a time when the only mode of getting there was to either walk, ride a horse, or by boat is completely mind blowing!

I have to say that I am shocked that Hereward is not spoken of or written about in the same way, and as often, as all the other greats are!

I believe if we all aspired to even a quarter of Hereward’s character the world would be a better place! Especially given that our current society is so self-centered/obsessed and lacking of any real self awareness and substance. Materialism has replaced humility. Technology has replaced socializing - and when we do interact with each other our thoughts are always elsewhere. We’re not “present” even when we are present.

And lastly, what is so ridiculously extraordinary is that even though we have the capability to travel, quickly and in comfort, to any place on earth we rarely do!

This book has definitely made it to my Top Favorites! It’s a must read for my fellow lovers of historical fiction - just when you thought you’ve read about all the battles, all the kings, all the famous love stories and happenings of the medieval times you discover one of the greatest!
